Engrossing was rendering a certificate or resolution in the 19th century style of lettering. The Zanerian Manual of Alphabets & Engrossing exemplifies the meticulous work of the engrosser. Fine lines and dots simulated shading. Some engrossing included elaborate drawings and rich color.
