Belcher, Mildred Mayfield, Virginia Harrison and Darla
Peek provided quite a spread and even our guest speaker,
Carol Palleson Hicks, commented on the wonderful
refreshments! Carol's program on the four basic printing
processes was very informative and we enjoyed her slides
of the actual printing equipment. Special thanks to Chips
Baumann for providing the new "Kitty"and thanks
to all those generous contributors who helped replenish
our refreshment supply fund. We will have an Early Bird Session for those who are interested in sharing the critiques they received from Carol Palleson Hicks for the Spring Exhibit pieces at 6:30 PM on June 4th. Officers are reminded to return your Anniversary piece so they can be passed on to the new officers during installation time...and of course, don't forget to bring your yummies for the potluck! The Secret Pal Committee handed out secret pal assignments at May's meeting. If you have not received anything from your secret pal by June 15th please call Karen Veni, Shirley Ginn, Cheri Wolf or Rebecca Ingram and they will light a fire under them. Also we have a new post office box, so if you are using our old number please make a note of the correct post office box for your return address: P.O. Box 291232, San Antonio, TX 78229. A big thank you to Maggie Gillikin and Brixey Sutton for a superb job in arranging for the 1998 Annual Exhibit. The poster Pauline Sager did for the Exhibit was great, and Bonnie Houser did her usual extravaganza in decorating the refreshment table. Thanks also to all who made cookies for the Exhibit, and to Carol Palleson Hicks who judged the show. The following entries won: 1st Place went to Donna Livingston for "My Favorite Things", Bill Waddington won 2nd Place with "Pater Noster", and 3rd Place went to Joan Schmitz for her funny and adorable "The Writings on the Wall". There were also 10 Merit Awards given to B.J. Grant, Bonnie Houser, Donna Livingston, Joanne Pacelli, Eleanor Russell, Pauline Sager and Leslie Winakur. The deadline for picking up your piece from the gallery is June 16th between 10am and 12 noon. Our next Mini Workshop will be September 17th when Carol Wood will be teaching us her fabulous pop up cards. She has several new rubber stamp designs that go with the decorative scissors. You may sign up for all 8 mini workshops in advance at the June meeting to assure your space for the upcoming minis. Don't forget the Calligrapher's Exchange which will be held on the first Thursday evening in August (8/6/98) at 6:30 PM. We already have at least 6 tables reserved. If you are interested in reserving a table for $10 to sell your unwanted supplies/art, please contact Maggie Gillikin at 494-4613. Also, if you have classes you teach please bring info to be given away. Our next major workshop will be for colored pencils, presented by Nancy Culmone on September 26-27, and then on November 7-8, Sherri Kiesel will bring us a workshop on decorated initials. I envy everyone who is getting to go to Rod Smith's ranch June 6th to make handmade paper. I know you will all have a great time!!! Thanks again Rod for your hospitality! If you have changed addresses or want your e-mail address included, please let Charlie Ingram know so we can have it correct in the Directory. Also, if you have not paid your dues for 98-99 by July 1st you will not be listed in the new Directory, so hurry and mail your dues today to Mary Bowman or Jo Drake. As you know, this is my last chance to BABBLE to you, and I do want to say thank you to all those who served so very hard as Officers and Committee Chairpersons. Your cooperation, time and energy has been so appreciated. You all worked extremely hard to make this guild run as smoothly and successfully as it had during the past two years, and certainly make my job easy and most of the time very rewarding and fun. I am very confident that our next President, Leslie Winakur, will bring to the guild some fresh, new and exciting ideas that will challenge us and help us all grow. I look forward to installing our new officers at our June meeting. You all are a great group of folks, and I cherish your friendships. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to serve. Sincerely, BJ |

Congratulations *** Dawn Houser, a member of SACG, is designing cards for the premier stationer, Crane and has her signature on the back along with the designation "Artists Collection". Her first three designs were introduced at the N.Y. Stationers' Show last May. This May, two additional designs were added. Dawn was featured at the Crane's booth at this year's Stationers' Show, held the third weekend in May. She is also in the process of designing a children's line for Crane and five designs for Christmas, 1999. Dawn will be featured in the July-August issue of Country Home magazine under the "Seen and Noted"section. Nancy Harkins Stationers carries many of her designs for Crane. Dawn's hand carved images and her distinctive hand written quotes are available on rubber stamps through the Paper Garden in San Antonio. Along with her husband, Page, and three children, she is moving to the area this summer. |
| Greetings! Thank you very much for inviting me to beautiful (hot) San Antonio to teach Avant Card, to present a lecture and judge your calligraphy show. I was honored to be there, my third time in San Antonio! I arrived home safely to (cold) Reno, where it snowed the next day. On the plane I thought about what a wonderful time I had; and I just wanted to thank you all again for everything! And a special thanks goes out to my great hosts, Joan & Tom Schmitz. I'm looking forward to returning to teach my fourth greeting card workshop in the spring of 2000. See you all then! Love, Carol - Silent Hand |
