Thoughts From the President

Happy Halloween! Fall is definitely here and we have the cool weather to prove it. Our fall exhibit at the Memorial Library located on Culebra Road opened on the 13th of October. Many of our newer members entered artwork in the exhibit (good on them!); we also have some funky pieces and lovely books in the case. Be sure to check it out if you have not done so already. We have locked in a future exhibit at St. Mary’s University in February of 2021 and are currently trying to find exhibit venues for Spring and Fall 2020. It is never too soon to start thinking what you might like to create for future exhibits.

Looking for inspiration? The Guild has a wonderful library filled with books on a wide variety of artistic and calligraphic subjects. The easiest way to find what you want is to look over the inventory and pick out a book you would like to borrow- see Brian Zampier to help you find it and check it out.

Rebecca Gonzales from the Briscoe Western Art Museum, would like us to participate again in the Pony Express Love Letters Program. It is held the first two weeks of February. She will be attending the December Guild General Meeting to give us more information. I would encourage you to sign up; members who participated in the past enjoyed it immensely. Speaking of the Briscoe, they currently are featuring their fall show “Art and the Animal” the Society of Animal Artists 59th annual exhibition, which runs through January 5, 2020.
Finally, I encourage you to bring whatever calligraphic art you are currently working on to the Share Table. Everyone loves to see what others are doing.

I look forward to Beth Morton’s presentation about Hans-Joachim Burgert and Akim script at the November general meeting. See you there!
