June Mini Workshop: Papel Picado

June 15, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

If you’ve ever admired the festive banners from Mexico that decorate our city during Fiesta, you’ll love this workshop! Although traditional Papel Picado (punched paper) uses chisels and hammers to cut out shapes from a stack of tissue paper, we will be using an X-acto knife and scissors.  We’ll get basically the same results without all the noise!

In this workshop you will go over a brief history of paper cutting art from other cultures, learn basic terms and techniques, and then design and create your own unique papel picado banner.  Other decorative ideas will be explored including the use of plastic instead of paper.  You’ll leave with great ideas to decorate for your next party!

  • X-acto knife and package of new blades (#11 blade)
